How should I perform Wudu if I have a wound or cast on my arm?
Islam provides mercy-based concessions for those with injuries or disabilities.
If you have a wound:
1. If you can wash around it: Wash the healthy parts as normal and leave the wound.
2. If washing would harm the wound: You may do masah (wipe) over a waterproof bandage or dressing on the wound.
3. If you cannot do either without harm: You may skip that area entirely for wudu, and perform tayammum for the injured part.
If you have a cast (plaster/fibreglass):
You may wipe (masah) over the cast instead of washing. Unlike khuffs (leather socks), masah over a cast has no time limit β it continues until the cast is removed or healed.
Evidence: The Prophet ο·Ί said about a companion with a head wound: "It would have been sufficient for him to do tayammum, bind a cloth over the wound, and wipe over it." (Abu Dawud)
For ghusl (full purification):
The same principle applies β wash all healthy parts, wipe over the covered wound, and if necessary, combine ghusl with tayammum for the injured area.
Key principle: "Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you." (Quran 5:6)
So make the intention, do your best with what is possible, and Allah accepts from each person according to their ability.
