Zakat is obligatory on every Muslim who owns wealth above the nisab threshold for a full lunar year.
Current Nisab: Equivalent value of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver.
On gold, silver, cash savings, business inventory, and investments held for one year.
A special charity paid at the end of Ramadan — about 2.5 kg of staple food (or cash equivalent) per household member.
1. The poor (fuqara)
2. The needy (masakeen)
3. Zakat collectors
4. Those whose hearts are to be reconciled
5. Freeing captives and slaves
6. Those in debt
7. In the way of Allah (fi sabilillah)
8. The stranded traveller (ibn al-sabeel)
Zakat purifies wealth, reduces inequality, strengthens community bonds, and demonstrates that wealth ultimately belongs to Allah.
